Halloween at Everyman

Do you like scary movies? We thought you might. But if the real horror is running out of ways to keep the little ghouls entertained this half-term, fear not. We get it.

This October, step into the shadows and join us as we play our favourite seasonal flicks; from the haunting chills of Kubrick’s masterpiece The Shining, to the witchy wonders of Hocus Pocus, and more.

Trick or treat, we’ve got something for every soul, living or otherwise – keep on reading and pick your poison.

Halloween Programme

1. The people's choice

The Shining

As voted by our ever-so-tasteful Instagram followers, we are bringing back The Shining, Stanley Kubrick's iconic horror masterpiece, for a late night special in most Everyman venues.

You may be asking yourself "Hasn't everyone seen this already?" Yes, they have. But does that make watching Jack Nicholson’s descent into madness any less disturbing? Absolutely not.

2. Fresh frights

New horror releases

Want to be ahead of the curve this Halloween season? We've got some killer new horror films that'll have you sleep with the lights on for a while.

Join us for a hair-raising villlainous Hugh Grant in Heretic, terrifying second chapter Smile 2, vampire classic remake Salem’s Lot, modern body-horror The Substance and long-anticipated sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

3. For the brave little ones (and you)

Coraline

Not everyone wants to commit to full-blown nightmares; some just want to dip their toes into those unsettling vibes and anxious feelings. So here's what's in store for you lot, and your braver little ones...

We're bringing back Coraline for its 15th anniversary. For a kid's movie, Coraline does an incredible job of making adults terrified of button eyes and secret doors. And for a bigger wave of nostalgia, we're playing The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a Christmas movie! Wait, no, it’s a Halloween movie. Actually, it’s both!

4. A wholesome Halloween half-term

Coco

If you're after something season appropriate, but a little more heartwarming, that will keep the kids entertained for a couple hours while you sip on a hot choc (or a glass of wine), we’ve got you covered.

Pixar's gem about the Mexican Día de los Muertos traditions Coco, and modern animated take on the creepy family we all know and love The Addams Family, are both playing as part of Toddler Club.

5. Nostalgia o'clock

Hocus Pocus

Feel like a bit of a throwback?

The most cuddly alien of them all, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, is coming in for a nostalgic visit, and to bring in that touch of seasonal eerie otherworldliness. And no Halloween season is complete without a visit from the Sanderson Sisters, so naturally we've got Hocus Pocus on the lineup.

6. Not for the faint-hearted

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Only for the real thrill-seekers, these horror masterpieces are not messing around.

As part of our Late Nights season, we're playing Brian De Palma's Carrie, a cult classic that you need to see at least once in your life– and don’t say we didn’t warn you about that final scene.

Plus, one of horror’s most disturbing characters, Freddy Krueger, is coming to haunt us in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Just remember, he can get you in your dreams, so maybe hold off on the Espresso Martinis while you watch this one?

7. Support local

Black Sunday Film Festival
